World Bank Classifies Cameroon 161 Economy in Doing Business Rankings

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – The World Bank and the International Financial Corporation on October 20, 2011 published the 2012 Doing Business rankings with Cameroon occupying the 161 position, registering some improvement from the 168 position in the 2011 rankings, a release from the Prime Minister’s Office states.

A total of 183 economies were concerned with the rankings done taking into account 10 different aspects governing the business climate, notably the creation of enterprises and cross-border trade in each country between the period June 2010 to May 2011, the Secretary General of the Prime Minister’s Office, Jules Doret Ndongo said in the release.

Within the past two years, Cameroon’s situation in Doing Business has improved by 12 points from 173 position in 2010, 168 in 2011 to 161 in 2012, Jules Doret Ndongo who is also the Chairman of the Follow-up and Evaluation of Activities of the Cameroon Business Forum stated that the improvement in Cameroon’s position is because of the efforts put in place by the government, supported by the private sector and development partners to ensure a conducive business climate in the country.

He said the ultimate goal is to strengthen the competitiveness of enterprises and accelerate economic growth in pursuance of the major accomplishments policy President-elect Paul Biya has for the country in his coming seven-year term of office.

The Cameroon Business Forum sets out to identify obstacles to private sector development and ensure the implementation of agreed reforms to enhance the competitiveness of the country, accelerate reforms conducive to improve the business climate and increase the influence of the private sector over the country’s economy to contribute to increase the private sector investment flow into Cameroon.
