Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. February 2011. (Cameroon News) – The Women in the South West region get together to work towards the economic progress of their fellow countrymen.
Women of the South West Region have expressed a sincere desire to work towards evoking growth, progress and national integration, thereby wanting to play what they would want to refer to as an “indispensable role” in the country’s progress towards growth.
They convened recently at the Buea Youth and Animation Centre to chalk out clear cut strategies directed towards satisfying their responsibilities.
The South West Regional Delegate for Women’s Empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF), Moffah Judith Lyengu was the chairman of the occasion.
Addressing the audience assembled there she indicated the importance that interactions between women’s associations held and stated that it was mandatory requirement for improving growth initiatives also stating that one of the major objectives of the ministry was to deploy more and more women oriented groups.
She explained that synergy between groups would induce more effect that work that was done by individuals.
Her active involvement at the ceremony, she added, was to oversee the establishment and setting up of the South West Regional Bureau of the Federation of Cameroon Women’s Associations Network, FERAFCAM.
While presenting FERAFCAM’s National President, Mrs. Moffah stated that the association’s motive would be to continue working with Divisional and Sub-divisional Women’s Forums, offering vast scope for peaking up capacity while providing the right kind of information about gender concerns and family management, amongst others.
She evoked women to build groups, put in effort to positively influence their day to day lives, and actively indulge in making decisions through numerous registration of voters’ , given the advantages that they hold in terms of numbers.
Addressing the women, FERAFCAM National President, Mrs. Rose Nyobe called on them to give up trivialities like gossip, depression and other negative thoughts and attitudes.
She also asked them to build a fund that would help them offer adequate assistance to helpless women wherein they would be motivated to stand on their own feet and not be dependent on anybody other than themselves for their existence.
The fund would be used to rehabilitate women who live and bring up their kids without the support of their husbands or families and to provide them employment and a better standard of living.
She was extremely appreciative of the efforts that the women had undertaken and was full of praises for whatever she had seen before her won eyes during the course of her working visit to all six divisional chapters of the South West Women’s Forum.
Every one of the six divisional presidents elected Mrs Agbor Martha Besem as South West Regional President of FERAFCAM. Other executive members would be comprised of representatives from the various divisions.
The new bureau was inaugurated by both the FERAFCAM National President and MINPROFF Regional Delegate.
The inauguration was followed by a musical performance by one of the women groups, headed by female musician Mary Mandi, which was followed by a discussion on the various income-generating operations that could be undertaken followed by yet another on the “woman’s right in obtaining title deeds”.
Such initiatives that are women oriented deserve special recognition especially in line with the government recognition for a need to promote more and more women empowerment oriented activities.
Women form the backbone of the society and such initiatives can help them to work as group towards standing on their own two feet while being able to earn money from common activities that will give them a regular income and enable them to take care of their own families.
