Veteran sportscaster, Zachary Tokoto Nkwo’s death spread all over Cameroon on June 4, Sunday. He was Cameroon’s well-known best sports commentator. Uncle Zack as he was dotingly called died after a lingering illness at the Mount Mary Hospital in Buea.
The much-admired veteran sportscaster was known for his extra-ordinary proficiency in sports reporting in many years. He excites his listeners of the former Radio Cameroon with perfect sports commentaries and could make the listeners vividly see in their minds what is actually happening in the game as if they were seated on the benches watching the game.
Many admirers and journalists after hearing the news of Zachary Nkwo’s death took to social media to give the veteran sportscaster their tribute. A lot of people describe Nkwo as an icon and an unquestionable source of inspiration specifically for the younger generation.
Professor Julius Ngoh, Zachary’s younger brother, said during an interview that Zachary was like an uncle to him and he was very disheartened because he never imagined Zachary will leave too soon.
He also revealed that he and Zachary Nkwo became very close after the sudden death of their sister in 2012 and the death of Zachary’s daughter at the same year. Professor Ngoh further said that Zachary never recovered from the death of his daughter.
Even Professor Ngoh was assigned in Bamenda, he made sure that he visits Zachary and spend time with him. Zachary was a very simple man and for this reasons that one family let their daughter take care of Zachary at the hospital.
Many people and fans will remember Zachary Nkwo as a very understanding person and who loved to share. Surely, he was a great loss to Cameroon especially in the field of sports reporting.
His wake and burial is yet to be announced by his family.
