“ We already have a number of world-class UK companies that are doing business with Cameroon. They do not want to come here simply to sell their goods, but to invest in skills for the people of this country because trade is a two-way phenomenon”, the visiting Minister said.

Cameroon stands to benefit from the intensified relations as, “We want Cameroonian companies to sell their goods to Europe and the UK-Cameroon and the UK are also working very closely in international organisations like the United Nations”.

He said their discussions also focused on climate change and forestry and stated that the UK has funds to assist with the forestry agenda.
Henry Bellingham said he was the first UK Minister to come to Cameroon on a full bilateral visit for a long time, stating that President Paul Biya wants relations between the two countries to be intensified. One of the areas is cultural and sporting links which also the centre of their talks.

“The President was very positive indeed and was the one making proposals to me on ways we can take to intensify our bilateral relationships”. He said there is a large Cameroonian Diaspora in the UK.

The UK Minister flew into Yaounde from Malabo, Equatorial Guinea where he added the 17th Summit of the African Union.
