Kumba, Cameroon Africa, October 14th (news.cameroon-today.com) -  A man has been killed by mob action following a foiled attempt to kill a group of persons in Kumba. The incident happened very early on Thursday at the Kosala 2 neighbourhood. The gang of ten materialized from the blues, and without warning began butchering passers-by. No reason for their action has been obtained yet.

Accounts say at about 6am, the ten men appeared from nowhere, and suddenly pulled out machetes and started hacking down people. Three people were severely injured. The screams were high pitched in response to the machetes. There was confusion everywhere, as no one seemed to know why the attack was taking place, and who the gang members were.

The action went on for a while, until a few persons responded to overpower the assailants. More bystanders joined in, and before long, one of the gang members Jarvies, was killed on the spot. In the process, one other gang member was severely dismembered by the mob. The police arrived moments later, just in time to rescue him from being burnt alive. They however, missed the rest of the gang who escaped into thin air.

The injured gang member was taken to the Kumba General Hospital for medical attention under police escort. Hours later, the police were still around, hoping to get some clues. It is not clear that the injured gang member, who is the only lead to the mysterious assault, will survive to help investigations.

Although Kumba has seen such attacks in the past, the present incident is the most horrific in recent times. The weapons left behind by the escaping gang members point to a no-nonsense operation that had no doubt been meticulously planned.
