Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) Cameroon’s Head of State, Paul Biya during his inaugural address at the National Assembly, Thursday, November 3, 2011, called on Cameroonians in the Diaspora to put their intellectual and technical expertise at the service of the nation.
Mr Biya re-elected with 77.989 percent of the votes cast in the October 9, 2011 presidential election in which he contested with 22 other candidates, took the oath of office at the National Assembly in the presence of the members of the National Assembly, Supreme Court, cabinet ministers, diplomatic corps and curious population.
Cameroonians in the Diaspora voted in national elections for the first time in 33 countries. Information from the Constitutional Council shows that 24,372 voters in foreign countries registered for the October 9 presidential election and 16,197 effectively voted registering 66.43 percent. 10,599 electors cast their votes for President Paul Biya giving him 67.733 percent.
President Biya declared that his diplomatic options will centre on respecting the ideals of the United Nations Organisation, the African Union, the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), an open-door policy towards friendly countries, peaceful existence with neighbouring countries and the presentation of the country’s views in all international diplomatic forums.
Paul Biya said, he would during his new term of office, accept constructive criticism as a mark of a growing democracy.
He decried and denounced fraud, corruption, embezzlement of public funds and delinquent behaviour by some drivers that have resulted to the lost of the lives of Cameroonians.
He promised to wage a consolidated and accelerated fight against the ills.
“Responsibility will be shared and the guilty made to account for their wrongdoings in the nagging problems of poorly managed projects and unfulfilled promises”, Paul Biya declared.
