Speaking at the United Nations, President Obama says if the United States and Iran can come to an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, it could lead to better relations based on mutual interests and respect. He said he has directed Secretary of State John Kerry to negotiate with Iranian officials and explore the prospects of better relations. “I am directing John Kerry to pursue this effort with the Iranian government, in close coordination with the European Union, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia and China,” Obama said. “The roadblocks may prove to be too great, but I firmly believe the diplomatic path must be tested.”
