NUDP Supports Incumbent Biya in Cameroon’s Presidential Election On October 9, 2011

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – The National Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP), will support the candidate of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), incumbent President Paul Biya in the October 9, 2011 presidential poll in Cameroon.

“After deliberations, we have decided to support Paul Biya given that the NUDP and CPDM have agreed to review their government partnership platform in order to improve its function and for the platform to benefit the country as a whole and the two parties”, Bello Bouba Maigari, the NUDP President said in Yaounde.

The executive organ of the NUDP, Central Committee, met in Yaounde on Saturday, September 3, 2011 and took the decision to renew the party’s government platform with the ruling CPDM. In the 2004 presidential election, Bello Bouba Maigari’s party supported the candidacy of Paul Biya.

After the election, he was appointed Minister of State for Post and Telecommunications in the coalition government and later on moved to the Ministry of Transport in the same capacity of Minister of State.

The Secretary General of the Central Committee of President Biya’s ruling CPDM, René Sadi during the NUDP Central Committee meeting conveyed Biya’s thanks and appreciation to the NUDP for the partnership existing between the two parties.

The Director General of Elections, Mohaman Sani Tanimou during an interview with Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV Radio at 1:00 pm Cameroon time on Monday, September 5, 2011 said 51 candidates submmited their nomination papers to ELECAM.

He did not give details on the candidates but said the Electoral Board was still gathering data on the nomination papers. The reception of the nomination papers ended at midnight on September 4 in compliance with the law.

The Secretary General of the CPDM Central Committee at the head of a six-member delegation, deposited incumbent President Biya’s file at the Elections Cameroon head office in Yaounde.

The leading opposition party, Social Democratic Front (SDF), during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the North West Regional capital, Bamenda on September 3, 2011, invested party chairman, John Fru Ndi SDF presidential candidate. His nomination file was submitted at the North West ELECAM Regional Delegation.

Of the five political parties represented in the National Assembly in the ongoing eighth legislative period, only Bello Bouba Maigari’s NUDP will not stand for the presidential poll.

The ruling CPDM, leading opposition SDF and other opposition parties such as Dr Adamou Ndam Njoya’s Cameroon Democratic Union (CDU) and Hon. Jean Jacques Ekindi’s Progressive Movement (MP), have the respective party presidents as presidential candidates

    NUDP is headed by one of the one-time strongest and most respected opposition leaders in Cameroon, who finally understood President Paul Biya’s philosophy and vision for Cameroon and therefore became an ally of CPDM, such support is therefore credible.
