Golf: Issa Nlareb Amang of Cameroon came out on Sunday as the winner of the FCT Classic 2017 at the Abuya’s IBB International Golf and Country Club.
The FCT Classic teed off on Friday and was highlighted on Sunday with the final round according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
This event was the opening tournament season of the 2017 West Africa Golf Tour (WAGT) and presented professional golfers from Cameroon, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and Ghana.
The game also coincides with the first anniversary of the West African Golf Tour which was started in Abuya in February or 2016.
The winner Nlareb after gaining an 11-shot lead towards the last round played a conventional round and making only two birdies to his score of 76 to achieve a total of 221 (+5).
Also the winner of the 2016 Gabon Open, Nlareb was tightly followed by Zimbabwe’s Victor Mapwanya who exerted real effort to overcome Nlareb, but finished only second.
Mapwanya displayed some good golf play, able to shoot a very convincing one under par 71 which was incorporated with 3 birdies and 2 drop shots in order to lessen the shortfall to 6 shots.
Nji Priestly, also of Cameroon, was able to shot a third round 73 to end as the third placer.
