According to his ordeal, he was traveling in a taxi from Limbe to Buea where he had to save the money in a local commercial bank when a gang of three began sweet-talking him.

The first man claimed to be from Russia, and did not remember his destination exactly. He said he was afraid of stopping in strange places since he had a load of mercury on board the taxi.
He then proposed a sweet deal to his “fellow passengers”. He asked for 1 million Francs CFA from anyone who wanted to make money trading Russian mercury. He added that he was the sole African representative of a Russian consortium, and that he had the ability to render anyone in the taxi richer than they expect.
During the discussions, the unsuspecting victim said he had only 600,000 Francs CFA, and asked if this was enough to a smaller deal. The “representative” accepted, and gave him some agreement documents to sign, including what looked like genuine investment papers.
He collected the money and asked the driver to stop around Mile 14 so he collects two new cell phones from a cousin of his. That was the last they saw of the swindler.
The man later learned that even the driver was part of the gang, and that he had just been duped. He got to the Tiko police station. All attempts to identify the gang has yielded no fruits yet.
