Korea Trade Promotion Agency To Open Cameroon Branch

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – The outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cameroon, Hosung Lee says the Cameroon branch of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency will be opened in the economic capital city, Douala to enhance trade between the two countries and facilitate the investment of Korean companies in the country.

Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency is a non-profit, governmental agency of Republic of Korea committed to promoting international trade and investment.
Ambassador Hosung Lee had a farewell audience with Prime Minister Philemon Yang at the Star Building on August 18, 2011 in the capital city Yaounde.

Speaking to the press after their discussions, the Korean diplomat said he started work as ambassador in Cameroon in September 2008. His greatest achievement is the re-opening of the Korean Embassy in Cameroon that was closed for over 10 years due to financial difficulties in Korea.

“Since 2008, I have worked to re-activate and diversify bilateral relations to the benefit of both countries,” Hosung Lee told the press, adding that apart from cooperation between the two governments, Korean businessmen have been showing great interest in Cameroon’s potentials. Korean companies, he said, are involved in gold and diamond mining in Cameroon.

He disclosed that the Korean government was providing funding for giant projects and concessionary loans for the construction of vocational training centres, the Emergency Medical Centre in the Yaounde Central Hospital and the establishment of public infrastructure for e-government.

The Ambassador further said, the Korean government was preparing to donate assistance for the construction of the Garoua Referral Hospital.

Ambassador Hosung Lee earlier on August 17, 2011 had discussions with the Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.

He used the occasion to hand over 60 computers the Korean government donated to contribute to the modernisation process of Cameroon’s National Assembly.

The Korean diplomat describes Cameroon as special country with much diversity and stated, “I believe that Cameroon will develop fast like Korea”.
