Higher Education: Pioneer Vice Chancellor of Cameroon’s Bamenda University Takes Office

University of Bamenda, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) The Bamenda University, the second Anglo-saxon State university in Cameroon after the University of Buea, will soon functional well with the commissioning of its pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Tafah Edocat Edward and the Pro Chancellor, Professor Mvogo Dominique.

Cameroon’s Minister of Higher Education and Chancellor of Academic Orders, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo commissioned the two senior officials into their functions during a ceremony at the university campus in Bambili, located at the outskirts of the North West Regional headquarters, Bamenda.

President Paul Biya announced the creation of the Bamenda University during his visit to Bamenda on December 8 to 10, 2010 on the occasion of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Cameroon’s armed forces.

He signed the decree organizing the University in March 2011 and appointed the pioneer Pro and Vice Chancellors on September 30, 2011. For now, only the Higher Teachers Training College and the Higher Technical Teachers Training College, the two pioneer institutions of the Bamenda University are functional and government sources say, the other other faculties and institutions will soon go operational.

Prof Jacques Fame Ndongo while commissioning the officials into their functions, announced the posting of a good number of lecturers to the new University as part of the special recruitment of 1000 University teachers recently prescribed by President Biya. He prescribed equity, equality and participation in building the university.
