Gabon, the host of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Gabon 2017 lost to Cameroon on Saturday at the State de Port Gentil with a score courtesy of captain Stephane Zobo.
However, this victory of Cameroon over Gabon is fall short of their bid to enter the semi-final and qualify to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in India after Ghana and Guinea had a draw at the Group A game in Libreville.
During the beginning of the game at Port Gentil, both teams shown little energy not until the 15th minutes when Nah of Cameroon moved his way into the area of Gabon team and gave a blinder that was fabulously parried away by Bruel Ilagou. After four minutes, the Gabonese keeper was not fortunate enough to do his blocking as the striker of Cameroon; Staphane Zobo brought the ball over his head into the goal.
Following that was a notable action between the two national teams, but to no effect for the Gabonese players and home fans.
After the restart, Gabon almost got an edge but Kevin Junior saw a chance and Ilagou did his best to block a shot from Zobo, but failed again.
Cameroon finished third and Gabon fourth. On the other hand, Guinea ended on second place with five points and joined Ghana for slots to the semi-final in Group A.
The Head Coach of Gabon still believes in his team and he knows that the players did their best and looks forward to future matches.
In the meantime, the Head Coach of Cameroon conveyed his disappointment with the results because that was not their intention, but will still work with the Cameroonian team to do better in future matches.
Striker Staphane Zobo is proud to get the award and for scoring in Saturday’s game and looks forward to a better future for the team.
