Austrian Company 4 G Solutions has announced the implementation of the first phase of 4G WiMax solutions in Cameroon.

The solutions and service provider 4G Solutions which operates out of Africa has announced the completion of the first phase of the 4G WiMAX network deployment in Cameroon and has set up a state-of-the-art mobile WiMAX in just a matter of four months.

4G Africa AG, a company that aims at setting up a broadband wireless networks based on 4G technology in Sub-Saharan Africa with the sole objective of narrowing down the digital divide, was the one to enter into a partnership alliance with 4 G Solutions. The services of 4G Africa are being proposed for both residential and business customers and comprise of Internet access, Voice over IP, and hosting in addition to other services. The network design is designed to allow both fixed and portable wireless connectivity for home and office and also offers mobile services to the customers.

The company has been able to prove a point by successfully fulfilling the implementation of the project within the stipulated deadline neither of which was any less challenging. This was the main motive behind 4G Africa entering into a contract with 4G Solutions to offer an all encompassing end-to-end WiMAX network integration and OSS/BSS infrastructure. Alvarion was taken in as a WiMAX RAN vendor.

4G Solutions comprises of a team of experts in radio and IP network planning, ISP services, business and operational support systems and mans an integrated subscriber management system that has AAA, service policy management and real-time convergent billing capability based on Volubill commercial solution and self-developed front-end applications for CRM, customer self-care and point-of-sales. The team has already deployed numerous WiMAX networks and has operational expertise that it has secured from implementing a multi-national WiMAX operator in Europe earlier.

The network roll-out and service implementation in Cameroon has not been a walk through owing to the varied demographic and cultural scenario and the services that are being sought after the most all require to be paid in advance. The first phase of the network offers indoor coverage for USB dongles and desktop modems in large scale residential and business regions of the city of Douala, which is Cameroon’s biggest port and business district; the second phase will be now directed towards providing services in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, and is slated to be finished in the summer of 2011.

4G Solutions is accountable for the total radio, access and core network planning, the end-to-end integration, ISP-, BSS- and OSS infrastructure, offers second level support and deploys the BSS operations as a hosted solution. Both the planning and implementation were completed within just a span of only four months and the first customers were connected and billed. More activities include radio network optimization with a self-developed 4G drive test tool and setting up of a web-based coverage map application which permits browsing for 4G network coverage in a chosen area.
