Yaounde, Cameroon, Africa. (Cameroon News) - The ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Cameroon Omar Faruk Dogan has reaffirmed his country’s determination to deepen cooperation ties with Cameroon and contribute towards making her an emergent economy by 2035.

The Turkish diplomat was speaking today in Yaoundé during an audience granted him by Cameroon’s Minister of Transport Robert Nkili.

During the 45-minute tête-à-tête both men discussed some projects in Cameroon such as the National Railway master plan, the imminent arrival of Turkish Airlines to Cameroon and the forthcoming visit of Minister Nkili to Turkey later this month.

Cameroon’s Minister of Transport will be carrying out a two-day working trip to the Republic of Turkey as from the 18th of this month ahead of the Trade Minister.

Robert Nkili this morning in Yaoundé held talks with the Turkish ambassador to Cameroon Omar Faruk Dogan during which both men explored ways of deepening cooperation ties especially in the field of transport.

One of such projects is the imminent arrival of the Turkish Airlines to Cameroon expounded here by the Turkish ambassador.

Omar Faruk Dogan: Cameroon is the door of Central Africa. All the neighbor countries are depending from the position of Cameroon.

All their needs coming from ship or maritime lines have to pass from Cameroon so this is an important value for Cameroon.

And we have discussed how the Cameroonian authorities’ community can provide from this effort and we will share our experience also to establish a huge transport project for the future of Cameroon like railways project, airlines project.

We will have very soon a Turkish airline coming to Cameroon: Yaoundé-Douala from Istanbul.

Douala, Cameroon, Africa. (Cameroon News) – Six people were killed and many more injured in an overnight car crash on Wednesday in the town of Njombe-Penja, western Cameroon.

Two transport buses collided in bad weather conditions of heavy rainfalls that have been higher than normal for this time of year in Cameroon. The collision occurred on the Douala-Bafoussam main road at the Mbete River bridge.

Reported, five passengers and one of the drivers died instantly.

Members of the North regional Commission for the selection of young Cameroonians to be trained by the National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development have been installed by the commission’s President, Governor Otto Joseph Wilson.  Shortly after the installation, the commission’s members immediately set to work as Doris Bate Tataw Ekwe reports from Garoua.

The Regional commission for the selection of young volunteers into the National Civic Service for Participation in Development has already begun work in their first session held today in Garoua.

Four hundred (400) youths of the 4 Divisions of the North Region will be selected, mobilised, sensitised and trained in fields like livestock breeding, fishing and agriculture which will facilitate their insertion into the socio-economic development of the country.

According to the President of the Regional Commission, Governor Otto Joseph Wilson, those selected or called will begin training by next month as soon as modalities are taken to effectively launch the agency’s activities in the North.

During a press conference which is part of the ceremony journalists expressed worries over the lifespan of the agency which they fear may die naturally just as other similar structures for youths have hardly survived few years after creation.

The North Chief Executive reassured pressmen and women that the National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development will stand the test of time and implement its goals to the letter, goals which consist in inculcating civic responsibility in young people, promoting sentiments of nationalism, discipline, tolerance, general interest and the culture of peace while ensuring their self esteem for a more conscious and effective participation in the country’s socio-economic and political development.

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – President Paul Biya of Cameroon on February 2, 2012 ordered the disbursement of FCFA 100 billion from the National Road Fund to carry out nine emergency road projects in the country.

The information is contained in a press release issued by the Minister of Public Works, Patrice Amba Salla.

The money the Minister said was available and the contractors already selected, will enable work to effectively start this February 2012 as part of the Head of State, Paul Biya’s major accomplishments programme that aims at making Cameroon an emerging country by 2023.

Government by the special measure targets to rehabilitate tarred roads such as the Yaounde-Bafoussam- Bamenda, Yaounde-Mbalmayo-Ebolowa and Ngaoundere-Garoua. The money will also be used to construct the Nding to Bouam stretch of the Obala-Bouam road, to rehabilitate the bridge of Dibamba river on the Yaounde-Douala road as well as the bridge on Nyong river on the Edea-Kribi road.

Part of the money will be used to rehabilitate earth roads such as the Mandjou-Batouri-Kenzou-Yokadouma in the East Region, Tibati-Banyo in the Adamawa Region and the Kumba-Mundemba road in the South West Region.

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – Egypt Air – The Egyptian official air carrier, Egypt Air, will begin direct flights from Cameroon in March 2012, Egypt’s Ambassador to Cameroon Ibrahim Moustafa Hafez has said.

He made the revelation in Cameroon’s capital city, Yaounde on January 25, 2012 during celebrations marking the first anniversary of the revolution that ousted President Hosni Mubarak from power.

The Ambassador said the air carrier company will set up an office in Yaounde to facilitate direct flights between Cameroon and Egypt.

Cameroon-Egypt Joint Commission session, Ibrahim Moustafa Hafez announced will take place in Egypt this year during which different aspects of bilateral relations will be reviewed.

He also said Cameroonians are expected to attend a series of cultural manifestations in Egypt this 2012.

The Minister Delegate at the Cameroon’s Ministry of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargoum said despite the revolution in Egypt one year ago, bilateral relations are expected to keep on growing.

He expressed happiness at the fact that Egypt was regaining peace and stability, stating the readiness of Cameroon to support Egypt.

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – Public administrators from Cameroon going on official missions abroad will henceforth board essentially the national air carrier, Cameroon Airlines Corporation (CAMAIR-CO) planes.

The measure is contained a circular letter of the Finance Minister, Alamine Ousmane Mey, outlining best practices in the execution of Cameroon’s 2012 State budget that stands at FCFA 2,800 billion.

The circular letter of January 13, 2012 renders operational the budget, whose execution was launched by the ten Regional Governors on Monday, January 16, 2012.

Government through the measure wants to boost the activities of the national airlines company and render it more competitive at the international level.

Finance Minister Alamine Ousmane Mey also prohibited the issuing of sitting allowances to participants in seminars and related meetings and also the putting of people on mission who are not part of the public service.

As a concrete action in fighting against corruption and administrative bottlenecks in the execution of public contracts, the Finance Minister has prohibited vote holders from segmenting contracts.

Henceforth, the circular letter further states, vote holders would not engage service deliveries without prior consultations and also for the State to take charge of the displacements of State agents on control mission of projects.

Government’s main sources of revenue as stated in the circular letter include taxes and customs duties, which Alamine Ousmane Mey stressed, must be given special attention and collected in all transparency.

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – Cameroon Tourism – Cameroon is gradually becoming a tourists destination in the Central African Sub-region, as it received a total of 604,052 foreign tourists in 2011, registering an increase from 572,728 in 2010.

The World Tourism Organisation recently gave confirmed Cameroon as a touristic destination.

The country targets more than one million tourists in 2020, the Minister of State for Tourism and Leisure, Bello Bouba Maigari said in the capital city, Yaounde on January 4, 2012 during the eighth session of the National Tourism Board.

Prime Minister Philemon Yang while chairing the National Tourism Board meeting reiterated government’s determination to put a new impetus in the tourism sector for it to effectively contribute in making Cameroon an emerging economy by 2035.

Mr Yang instructed all ministries involved in the promotion and development of tourism to prepare and submit to him quarterly reports on the progress of the sector and also translate recommendations into concrete projects.

Statistics from the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure show that government in 2011 authorised the

• construction of 53 hotels with a capacity of 1,005 rooms, offering 1,060 jobs;
• the opening of 29 hotels with a capacity of 587 rooms;
• 27 restaurants and 15 recreational grounds with a capacity of 1,720 places and generating 150 direct jobs.

The Minister of State for Tourism and Leisure said in government also authorised the opening of six tourism agencies and 10 tourism guides. The total investment injected by the private sector into the hotel and tourism sector stands at over FCFA 25.9 billion, creating 2,370 jobs, Bello Bouba Maigari said.

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News ) – The Custom Department in Cameroon has contributed over FCFA 542 billion to Cameroon’s public treasury in 2011, compared to FCFA 528 billion in 2011, registering an increase of FCFA 43 billion.

The Director General of Customs, Minette Libom Li Likeng disclosed the contribution during the Customs Night organized in Cameroon’s economic capital city, Douala on December 29, 2011.

The increase in customs revenue, she explained, was due to government reforms to modernize the sector and also serious business people who effectively pay customs duties and taxes.

The customs revenue announced, Minette Libom Li Likeng said, did not include the expected FCFA 30.408 billion from the Cameroon Oil Refinery Corporation (SONARA) and FCFA 38.738 billion from the public administration.
