Monday he was kidnapped, interrogated for 11 days and tortured for a political fiction seen as lampooning President Paul Biya’s longevity.

Richard Fouofie Djimili insists his film entitled “139… The Last Predators” about an imaginary nation’s leader who has been in power 139 years and shows no sign of stepping down is not a reference to the 80-year-old Biya, who has been in power for three decades.

“I was abducted, held in a secret location for 11 days. During my detention, I was tortured. My finger was chopped off,” Djimili said, showing off his bandaged left arm.

“I was starved and I lost around 10 kilos. On the night of April 2, my kidnappers wanted to kill me and dump me in a swamp but one of them helped me escape,” he said.

Read More on this Cameroon News articles

<img class="size-full wp-image-398" alt="President Paul BIya of Cameroon and President Barack H. The UN official said he was equally a bearer of a special message of encouragement and congratulations from Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to President Biya on the final resolution of the Bakassi boundary issue and on Mr. Biya’s tactful handling of the floods that have been hitting parts of the country of late especially of the putting in place of a special fund for disaster victims in Cameroon.

On a rather personal note, Mr. Abu Musa said he used the opportunity of the audience to officially present himself to the Cameroonian leader with whom he had not met since his designation as Ban Ki-moon’s Special Representative in the sub-region in July of last year.

President Paul Biya and the visiting UN Special Representative in Central Africa Abu Musa have been reviewing peace and security concerns in the Central African Sub-region with a special eye on piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.

President Paul Biya of Cameroon Africa

Peace And Security Concerns In The Central African Sub-Region With A Special Eye On Piracy In The Gulf Of Guinea is a post from: News Cameroon-Today.com
Pin It

US Presidential Debate – What Can Cameroon Learn from It?

Featured

Paul BIya

World News

Barack

Obama

US Presidential Debate – What Can Cameroon Learn from It? US Presidential Debate – What Can Cameroon Learn from It? (Cameroon News) – A more aggressive Barack Obama has buried the memory of a poor first showing as he and Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney clashed in the second presidential debate in New York. Mr. Obama, perceived to have lost their first encounter came out forcefully on the economy, tax and foreign policy.

Two minutes into the debate both men were virtually at each other’s throats and President Obama looked more aggressive to make up for his lackluster performance during the first debate. The debate was organized differently from the first with citizens having to ask the questions under the moderation of CNN’s Candy Crowley.

Their most contentious moment was during an exchange on energy issues, taxes and foreign policy. Mr. Romney sought to portray the attack on US embassy in Libya as evidence of President Obama failing foreign policy and that the President did not admit it was a terror attack. Obama fired back and called on moderator Candy to say it loud when she confirmed Obama had actually branded the Benghazi attack a terror attack.

Mr. Obama in turn criticized Romney of inconsistency and contrasted his bailout of the car industry with the Republican position that car makers should have been allowed to go bankrupt. Mr. Romney blamed the President for the unemployment of 20 million citizens and for increased federal deficit.

Mr. Obama on his part replied by calling Romney’s plans sketchy and accused him in his economic plan for cutting funding for Planned Parenthood which is a family planning organization which the Republican says encourages abortions.

President Obama was considered to have performed better than Governor Romney but generally these debates are not considered as a barometer for undecided voters. In the days to come the polls would tell the story of how voters viewed it but globally the impact on voters is often negligible as most viewers always view the debate with partisan eyes.

US Presidential Debate – What Can Cameroon Learn from It? The first, wanting at all cost to retain power; while the second, will stop at nothing to grab it.

Many attempts to mend fences through negotiations and dialogues did not bear any fruits with pundits concluding that the political stalemate was to be blamed on both sides which have decided to take the country hostage. It took the time it has taken but at last the political maturity of the two parties has given the country a new political configuration.

Militants and supporters had sworn that Paul Biya and Ni John Fru Ndi will never shake hands. They had thought that Fru Ndi will enter the Unity Palace only when he will take power.

Unfortunately they all had it wrong.

It started in Bamenda on the 10th of December 2010 during the 50th anniversary celebration of the defense forces when Paul Biya received Fru Ndi in audience, both men shaking hands firmly.

Less than a month after, Ni John Fru Ndi was at the Unity Palace leading the SDF delegation to New Year wishes ceremony to the president of the republic.

Today it is an invitation to the National President of the ruling CPDM party from SDF National Chairman to attend the eight convention of the green and white party.

This was very unthinkable but the policy of appeasement based on dialogue preached by both leaders has superseded the confrontational determination of their militants and the high level CPDM delegation to be led by Gregoire Owona Deputy Secretary General of the party, the first in the history of both sides, just comes to confirm the adage that political opponents are not necessarily enemies but only have a divergence in their political opinions.

Hopefully that this new found ground of friendship may just be signs of more collaboration as the years pass by.

In the build up to the eight national convention of the Social Democratic Front a rally is currently going on at the Bamenda Municipal Stadium and this will be followed by cultural evening at the Bamenda Congress Hall.

A high level delegation of the CPDM party will be taking part at the eight national convention of the opposition SDF party in Bamenda from tomorrow the 12th to October 14.

Ni John Fru Ndi Chairman of Social Democratic Front SDF Cameroon Cameroun

Biya, Fru Ndi – Eight National Convention Of Social Democratic Front in Bamenda from 12th to October 14, 2012 is a post from: News Cameroon-Today.com
Pin It

Cameroon Forum on Norms and Quality – Consumer Goods Standards and Quality Agency (ANOR)

Featured

Government

Paul BIya

World News

Yaounde

ANOR

Standards and Quality Agency

The norms, a document containing the norms and quality of some main goods consumed in Cameroon will soon be made available by the Standards and Quality Agency (ANOR). (Cameroon News) - A document containing the norms and quality of some main goods consumed in Cameroon will soon be made available by the Standards and Quality Agency (ANOR). This is the major concern of a three-day forum on standards and quality that is taking place in Yaoundé.

The Standard and Quality Agency, known by its French acronym as ANOR, will soon make available a document containing the norms and quality of some made in Cameroon goods.

The issue is at the center of deliberations at the three-day forum on standards and quality that opened in Yaoundé today. Participants are brainstorming and exchanging ideas on the quality of made in Cameroon goods.

While opening the forum, the Minister of Mines Industry and Technological Development Emmanuel Bonde emphasized the need for goods made in Cameroon to meet international standards in order to be competitive on the world market.

A national forum on standards and quality has opened in Yaoundé with participants expected to come up with a document containing the norms and quality that some products consumed in Cameroon should obey.

Opening the three-day forum this morning, the Minister of Mines Industries and Technological Development Emmanuel Bonde underscores the need for Cameroonian goods to meet up with international standards in order to be competitive on the market.

Standards and quality play an important role in the production, commercialization and consumption of goods.

The world having become a global village, goods produced anywhere must be of good quality and meet up with international standards in order to be competitive on the market. Quality is also much required by the consumer who needs not fear any health hazard after the consumption or use of a given product.

In the early years of his ascension to power, President Paul Biya called on Cameroonians to consume home made goods, some of which goods where probably at that time not up to international standards.

In a bid to improve on this situation, the standards and quality agency ANOR was created in 2009 to take care of the sector. Since then, various activities have been organized all in a bid ensure that goods produced in Cameroon or imported are of international standards and quality for the well-being of the consumer.

The national forum on standards and quality that opened this Wednesday and which is part of a national week on quality is just one of such activities during which a blueprint for standards and quality is expected to be made available.

The question of standards and norms in the manufacture and distribution of goods and services has become a major concern for governments around the world. Everyday there are reports of some countries banning the importation of goods that failed to meet established standards and this leads to just one question: Why this obsession for the respect of standards and norms?

The universe and the interrelationship between the elements is a beautiful example of standardization, loosely defined as a set of rules for ensuring quality. Seen from the Earth, the Sun rises from the east and sets to the west. It is standard, so do technologist and manufacturers establish standards in all manufacturing works. And governments are insisting that goods sold on the market should obey to specific standards and norms.

The markets are multi-faceted. Standardized goods and services are user-friendly confidence-builders that keep us safe, healthy, secure and of high quality. As a result, standardized goods are widely accepted, commonly trusted and highly valued.

For manufacturers standardized goods lead to better utilization of resources and helps technological transfer, reduce manufacturing costs and rationalize the manufacturing process. In addition, they provide the starting point for research and development for further improvement of the goods and services.

Besides, standardized goods get better market access and so tend to compete favorably in the market. All these spur governments to make standards and quality cardinal principles for both the manufacture and import of goods and services to their various countries.

The norms, a document containing the norms and quality of some main goods consumed in Cameroon will soon be made available by the Standards and Quality Agency (ANOR). Yesterday’s lap was won by Dutch rider David Van Eerd.

We left Kye-Ossi about three hours ago. We are on the rail cross and we are less than 10 kilometers from the finish line and for now the news – is that the man to watch out for is the Frenchman Alexandre Join.

He is leading the race. He took the race after about 60 kilometers from the starting point along with this team mate Ludovic Burdack and for now the Frenchman is 46 seconds away from the second.

If he wins this lap he is going to take the yellow jersey but for now others are just 46 seconds behind and amongst them is the yellow jersey Van Eerd.

There was a dramatic fall at 30 kilometers from the kicking point that is Kye-Ossi at about 30 kilometers away.

The leader of the team had a good fall and was only transported out of the race by the ambulance that took him to a hospital out here in Ebolowa.

As for now we are five kilometers away from the finish line and the Frenchman Alexandre Join is leading at about 46 seconds away from the others and as I told you if it continues like that he is going to take the yellow jersey away from the current holder. We are about four kilometers away from the finish line.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-398" title="Biya And Obama" src="http://news.cameroon-today.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/obamaBiya-300x200.jpg" alt="President Paul BIya of Cameroon and President Barack H.
