Cameroon: Knowles Uses Music For Water

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – Solange Knowles plans to use the proceeds from her album ‘Kenya’, for a social cause.

Solange Knowles is proposing to make use of her singing prowess to promote a social cause. The Texan musician has synergized with Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor and Twin Shadow to develop a new tune at getting together money to help the global water shortage in Africa.

The funds that would be raised from the sale of her album would go towards addressing the pressing concerns that various regions in Africa like Cameroon, Rwanda and Uganda are currently facing because of famine and water shortage.

‘Kenya,’ an album that is based on tribal music, was set up to collect funds and sensitize the population about the acute water shortage and requirement for hygiene as a part of The Replenish Africa Initiative (RAIN) set up by The Coca Cola Africa Foundation.

The foundation proposes to bring together business, local government and people committed to the cause to adeptly manage the peaking water crisis.

The singer who plans to take a break from DJing is of the opinion that the world is not aware of the issues that the people in countries like Cameroon and Rwanda face because of the lack of availability of clean drinking water and feels that she could contribute to the cause through the release of her album.

The aim behind the ‘Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams’ song that has been accompanied by a video, which indicates the three performances in the studio, intermingled with footage of the people who are struggling to battle the African water crisis is to sensitize the world about their sad plight .

The music that has been inspired by the tribal music in Kenya is the pivotal point in the album offering melodious vocal support to the instrumental mid tempo track that has been conceptualized and executed by musicians Chris Taylor and Twin Shadow.

The songstress is of the opinion that the song together with the video that showcases it really brings put the real depth of the crisis indicating the extent of difficulties that the people of Africa have to go through to have access to clean drinking water.

“To me it inspires hope when it’s more upbeat and spirited, and I think that that is what the conversation should be about,” Solange says referring to the water song. The singer is quite a rage in DJ field and had made herself a string reputation in jockeying.

The funds that are raised from the sale of the album ‘Kenya,’ will be taken towards promoting and funding any initiative that is directed towards providing clean and uncontaminated drinking water to people in various parts of Africa who suffer from acute water shortage.

The proceeds will also go towards addressing the hygiene and sanitation requirements of the communities in Africa who suffer from the poorest population. Some of the activities that they are aiming at involves building bathrooms and toilets in Rwanda, set up provisions for rain harvesting roofs in Uganda or containers to transport water in Cameroon.

Cameroon had faced one of the biggest ever health disasters the previous year in the form of cholera which had taken hundreds of lives as well as incapacitated numerous people including women and children.

United Nations delegates who assessed the situation attributed the cholera attack to the lack of hygiene and sanitation as well as to the consumption of contaminated drinking water. They were able to find out that people in the cholera infested areas were consuming the same water that had been infected by the germs in the fecal matter that they had disposed in open pits.

Initiatives of this kind will work towards getting funds to address such issues which are not just taking place in Cameroon but in other parts of Africa as well.
