Cameroon Small Business Initiative Held Back By Lack of Electricity, Access to Credit and High Taxes.

Douala, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – In a first of a kind report submitted to the Cameroon government by Light Africa, lack of electricity, no access to credit resources, high tax burdens were listed as the major reasons for failures in small and medium size entreprises in Africa.

The research work was funded by Trust Africa and was carried out in Nigeria, Cameroon and South Africa.

The findings states that upto 70% of small and medium business entrepreneurs were not aware of the limited support structures and services put in place by their governments

Some of the ideas put forward to encourage small businesses was the creation of an express enterprise portal.

Mr. Owona Alfonso, speaking on the progress done by cameroon’s government in this regard mentioned the existence of a three (3) days period as maximum time to obtain all required licenses and paper from the government as well as new limited constraints on small businesses.
