Cameroon President Paul Biya Calls For Tolerance To Elections Cameroon Imperfections

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – Cameroon’s outgoing Head of State, incumbent President Paul Biya, says the country’s independent electoral body, Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) is young requesting Cameroonians to be indulgent with regard to the body’s imperfections in organising the October 9, 2011 presidential election.

Mr Biya, the candidate of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), spoke in Yaounde, October 9 after casting his vote. He lauded the positive actions of ELECAM in organising the election which is its first experience and stated, ” there is no deliberate will of fraud”.

Biya further said, ” We are for transparent and free elections” and called on Cameroonians to freely choose the candidate who will lead their destiny.

Paul Biya expressed gratitude to Cameroonians from all strata of who called on him to stand for re-election and said, “It is for that reason that I am here”.

“This is a decisive day,” he declared and added, ” we will see whether Cameroonians will choose to continue with us or with another person”.

Counting of the election results continue. For now it is difficult to have result trends. Candidates or political parties that have petitions with regard to the conduct of the election have up to October 11 to table their them at the Supreme Court acting as the Constitutional Council.

The Council has 15 days from polling day to proclaim election results.

    Being just a young organ ELECAM did more than expected to organise smooth elections. She should be encouraged and I think she will do far more better during the next elections.
