Ebolowa, Cameroon Africa. January 2011. (cameroon News) – President Paul Biya and his wife the First Lady has been spellbound at the variety of agricultural products on display at the Ebolowa Agro-pastoral Show.

The visit to the exhibition proved to be a real treat to the President and his wife as well as the officials who escorted them who were surprised and proud by the huge plethora of agriculture produce and animals that were produced in various parts of Cameroon.

The visit was flagged off with the demonstration at the stalls where maize was on display.

The Head of State was full of appreciation for the maize plants that were bursting with good health and listened patiently to detailed explanations from subject experts as to how corn and maize can be processed to obtain various varieties of derived products.

The presidential couple were also asked to taste some of the derived products which they did in great eagerness and found that they were as nice tasting as they were claimed to be.

The couple was seen to be nodding their heads at each other with broad smiles of appreciation lighting up their faces.

There were also demonstrations at stalls exhibiting plantains, rice, cassava and other crops, the presidential couple exhibited tremendous patience coupled with genuine interest as the farmers and the experts walked them across the entire value chain commencing from the crops and finishing off with the derived finished products.

The next set if visits were to the whole set of stalls that were provided for the animals and livestock.

Here, President Paul Biya and First Lady Chantal Biya were taken all over and in great detail described the procedure for producing healthy eggs, chicken and pigs, most of who were pretty healthy and enormous by average standards and this was fact noted exclusively by both the President and his wife who was highly appreciative of the sizes and weights of what they saw.

Perhaps, it was at this domain that President Paul Biya made a very interesting finding of some elephant sized cows from the Elba Ranch in the North West Region.

The President was amused to year that swine or pigs were reared even in the Northern Provinces of Cameroon which were predominantly Muslim areas and that some of them were even weighing close to three hundred kilos which is almost three to four times the weight of an average human being.

Following this they went over to the stands that displayed other crops and livestock like camels, camels, horses, goats, yams, honey, cane rats and locally produced handicrafts that are made from regionally available materials.

Yet another section that was able to gain the interest and appreciation of the Presidential couple were the stalls for acqua-culture which had huge sized fish from the seas that surrounded Cameroon as well as from some of the local lakes and rivers.

There were some massive ones which weighed to around one hundred kilos each.
But the fact that pleased the farmers and the fishermen who had come to Ebolowa to showcase their products and produce more than the thing that they could get to shake hands with the biggest figure in the nation was that the President was patient in listening to the problems if the farmers and offering the right kind of solutions with words of appreciation or of encouragement to each of them.

The fact that the President was also a good farmer and knew quite a lot about farming was also an interesting discovery fro most of them.
The five hours that the Presidential couple spent in the Agro-pastoral show proved to be a fruitful experience for not just the farmers but the couple also.
