YAOUNDE, CAMEROON AFRICA. NOVEMBER 2010 (news.cameroon-today.com) - Logbaba Natural Gas Field – British Company Set To Begin Production
On wednesday November 24th chairman of Victoria Oil & Gas, Mr Kevin Foo, told Cameroon’s Minister of Industries, Mines and Technological Development, MINIMIDT, Badel Ndanga Ndinga, that all was set to begin production of liquefied natural gas at the Logbaba plant as soon as licence was granted. The meeting took place in Yaounde, Cameroon’s political capital.

Oil and gas Plant
According to the Chairman of British-owned Victoria Oil and Gas, Kevin Foo, the Douala Logbaba liquefied natural gas plant has a capacity of over 500 megawatts of electricity production once it goes operational.
Kevin Foo during the meeting with Badel Ndanga Ndinga reminded Cameroon’s minister that as Victoria Oil and Gas Company chairman he was in Cameroon “to advance discussions on the granting of a production licence and to seek MINIMIDT’s support as well as working with the National Hydrocarbons Corporation (SNH) to expedite action on the matter.”
Mr. Foo stated that production could not begin without the licence and thus granting of the licence was crucial to the birth of the Logbaba Liquefied natural gas project in Cameroon.
Other interesting facts on the readiness of Victoria Oil and Gas in Cameroon emerged during the meeting. Chairman Kevin Foo made it known that Victoria Oil & Gas Company had already spend over US $ 70 million (about FCFA 34 billion) on the Logbaba plant and needs to begin production of natural gas to honor its supplier contract with local Cameroonian industries which contracts are already in place.
In addition, Victoria Oil and Gas indicated its interest in expanding to the energy generation sector of Cameroon. To this end, the British-based company has already put in place pipes and necessary equipments to supply gas to local industrial customers in Douala, Cameroon.
Amongst its present contractual customers in Cameroon are Korean and Chinese power generation investors to whom Victoria Oil and Gas seeks to act as major gas supplier as a reliable and cheaper rate than today’s competitors.
The Logbaba plant would employ over 100 Cameroonians during construction phase, 150 more during operations. When fully operational the plant is to produce 8 to 40 million cubic feet of gas per day, with a live span of more than 25 years, assured Kevin Foo.
It should be noted that the Douala Logbaba Liquefied Natural Gas Plant is not Victoria Oil and Gas sole interest in the central African nation of Cameroon. The company is seeking licences for oil and gas explorations offshore and onshore throughout the nation.
“The potential in Cameroon is quite spectacular. We are very glad to invest here because Douala is the hub of Central Africa – everything comes and goes through it; and the big industries in the sub region are in the city,” concluded Chairman of British-owned Victoria Oil and Gas, Kevin Foo.
Other companies with a keen interest in the liquefied natural gas and oil sectors of Cameroon include France-based GDF Suez and British-based BowLeven PLC
