It was a wet day for the Members of the youth wing of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (YCPDM),when they ignored incessant rains, in Bamenda, in their efforts to publicise their choice of national party chairman, Paul Biya’s candidature for the ensuing 2011 presidential polls.
The gathering turned out to be a show of strength for the YCPDM youth country-wide.32 sections from the North West Region participated. Youth from the West, South West, Littoral, East and South Regions who were around as guests, carried like- minded messages.
Mr Anthony Dighambong Mvo, the representative of the North West YCPDM Presidents, opined that the region has already transformed itself, concentrating on his vision of development. President Paul Biya, he believed was therefore, the ideal choice and the best possible under the circumstances.
He lauded the CPDM government for the peace in Cameroon, adding, however fragile the peace, it surpassed the best results of war. He used this as an opportunity, and exalted the youth to acquire their National Identity Cards, register themselves, and cast their votes in favour of the CPDM candidate at the opportune moment.
He thanked President Paul Biya for the recent gifts to the North West, of a state university, a referral hospital, among the several others.He assured the President of the total youth support of the North West Region,with a guarantee of their entire votes.
Bidoung Mpkatt, CPDM Central Committee Delegation Leader, who chaired the meeting, was categorical in confirming President Paul Biya’s capability, as the sole and fittest candidate to be able to take on challenges facing the Cameroon of today.
He credited the prevailing peace in Cameroon, to the leadership qualities of President Paul Biya,and cited it as the reason for Cameroonians to give him their consent, to continue with development projects in the country.
He did not fail to thank President Paul Biya for his compassion in conceding to the requests of the people of the North West during his last visit to Bamenda. He also complimented the youth of the region for ensuring peace in the country and requested for calm as the President had better options for them. He demanded that all CPDM supporters register now, and cast their ballots favouring the party in the ensuing presidential election.
Dr Fuh Calistus Gentry,in his role as a member of the CPDM Central Committee delegation and Secretary of State in the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Technological Development, speaking to the press later, said he believed President Biya will not disappoint the youth of the North West ,as they have unilaterally chosen to support the President in the upcoming presidential election. Former Prime Minister, Simon Achidi Achu, Fru Jonathan, were also among those present to lend support.
