Kribi deep sea port, is expected to cost around CFA francs 500 billion (around $985 million), will be important for the outbound cargo from not just Cameroon but its land locked neighbors as well.
The outbound shipments will primarily involve Cameroon’s iron ore, alumina and other minerals.
When the project is finished the port will provide access to the biggest ships which cannot be brought into Cameroon as the present sea port of Douala does not have the facility to anchor ships of such massive size.
A construction company Razel based out of France had won the bid for the development of the port site and has already started their work since early December.
Following negotiations the Government of China has agreed to take up the construction.
