A Journalist from Cameroon who was arrested in February early this year was found dead in prison this April. His brother claims that the journalist Cyrille Germain Ngota Ngota was tortured in jail which ultimately resulted in his death.

Minister for Justice officially revealed the postmortem report of the death this Tuesday stating that there has been no cuts, wounds or any other signs even remotely indicating torture.

The journalists brother however claims that Cyrille was forcibly made to stand in a dark room for close to eight hours and was forced to eat his own fecal waste.

“We know that he had been tortured when he was arrested in February and taken to the DGRE, the country’s security service.” states his brother.

The Minister in response to the allegations stated that the release of the postmortem report was just the first step in the investigation that is currently ongoing. He also stated that the postmortem was carried out in four days following the death.

Ngota was arrested with two other colleagues Robert Minya and Serge Sabuoang following strong conviction that they had fraudulently signed an official document. Both the other journos have vehemently said that the accusations are entirely false.

Following an attack on Minya wherein he had to be hospitalized for the injuries sustained the government had dismissed the Police Chief and the DGRE Supremo. Intuitions are that the dismissal was fuelled by the wrong arrest of the journos as well.
