Cameroon – Heroes’ Welcome for AFCON Champions

A heroes’ welcome was given to the Indomitable Lions, AFCON 2017 champions.

Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions defeated Egypt in the 2017 AFCON final in Gabon on Sunday to obtain their fifth title.

On February 6, Monday, the Indomitable Lions were given a heroes’ welcome upon their return from winning the African Cup of Nations 2017.

The triumphant players were greeted by hundreds of fans at the Nsimalen International Airport in Yaoundé.

The team led by Benjamin Moukandjo, the squad’s captain, wore T-shirts with the badge of the 2019 African Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Cameroon.

The national anthem was sung by the players at the airport before proceeding to their base.

Hundreds of fans followed the bus of the squad as they travelled to their base from the airport.

President Paul Biya Welcomed the Indomitable Lions

After the heroes’ welcome on Sunday, the Indomitable Lions attended a ceremony on Wednesday in Yaoundé.

The champion squad presented to President Biya the Nations Cup trophy at the Unity Palace.

Afterwards, the players paraded in open-top automobiles around the streets of the capital to show off the trophy to fans.

Medals were presented to the players by President Biya who claimed that the conquest of the team should be celebrated by Cameroonians as one country.

Towards the end of the celebration, First Lady Chantal Biya had a series of photos taken with the players. The First Lady even used the phone of Fabrice Ondoa to take a “selfie” with the players.

Cameroon will host the 2019 African Cup of Nations.
