Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – The Executive Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), the football governing body in the country, on January 6, 2012, reduced the Indomitable Lions captain, Samuel Eto’o Fils sanctions from 15 matches suspension to eight months suspension. The FECAFOOT executive committee meeting in Yaounde was chaired by its President Iya Mohammed.

Vice Captain of Cameroon’s National Football team, Indomitable Lions, Eyong Enow Takang whom FECAFOOT also suspended from playing two matches, saw the sanctions reduced to two months suspension, while Assou Ekotto who was fined to pay FCFA one million had the sanction cancelled.

The FECAFOOT executive committee also appointed the former Captain of the Indomitable Lions, Rigobert Song as team manager.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation on December 16, 2011 in Yaounde, sanctioned Eto’o Fils and the Assistant Captain of the Indomitable Lions, Eyong Enow for inciting players to revolt and consequently refusing to play the friendly match with the Algerian National Football team in Algers on November 15, 2011.

Assou Ekotto was fined for failing to come for the LG Africa Cup match in Marrakech.

The bone of contention between FECAFOOT authorities and the Indomitable Lions reportedly came from the players demand for the payment of match bonuses of FCFA 22 million.

The then Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Michel Zoah, increased the amount to FCFA 25 million but it is said to have arrived late when the players had already taken the decision not to play the match.

Algeria’s Football Federation reportedly spent much money in preparation for the friendly encounter.

The federation transported players from different clubs to the capital city, Algers where the match was to be played, spent money on television rights and all the tickets for the 80,000 seat stadium had been sold.

Following later negotiations, FECAFOOT agreed to pay FCFA 250 million to the Algerian Football federation as compensation.
