Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – The Republic of Cameroon and the People’s Republic of China on Monday, December 5, 2011 signed seven new partnership agreements in the education, health, energy, culture and press sectors.
The signing of the agreements is the hallmark of the two-day visit of the State Adviser, Vice Prime Minister of China to Cameroon, Liu Yandong.
Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang and the visiting Chinese Vice Prime Minister, Liu Yandong co-chaired the agreements signing ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital city, Yaounde.
The agreements were signed by Cameroon’s cabinet ministers in their domains of competence and their Chinese counterparts.
They included the Memorandum of Understanding on the project of granting 300 university scholarships for a period running from September 2012 to August 2016, meaning 75 scholarships per year and Memorandum of Understanding on the project to put up a demonstration and training centre for new technology in endoscopic diagnoses and community health services.
There were also agreements related to the digging of wells estimated at 10 million Yuans (about FCFA 767 million), solar street lights in Yaounde, construction and donation of an Agricultural Technical High School, gift of medical equipment for Cameroon’s health institutions estimated at 10 million Yuan (about FCFA 767 million) and a gift of 8 million Yuans (about FCFA 613 million) to Cameroon’s cultural institutions and press organs.
Philemon Yang in a statement that preceded the working session that took place behind closed doors welcomed the visiting Chinese Vice Prime Minister on behalf of the Head of State, Paul Biya and the people of Cameroon.
He said Sino- Cameroon relations are marked by partnerships of proximity, stating that beyond trade exchanges that keep on growing, Chinese investments have greatly impacted the lives of Cameroonians.
President Paul Biya later had Unity Palace discussions with the visiting Vice Prime Minister Liu Yandong.

These new cooperation accords are just an extension of those signed recently in July between both countries. It seems they were not satisfied with the number of accords and estimate they have much to still offer to each other.
Cameroon and China are not ready to stop after covering such a considerable distance in their relationship. The partnership agreements signed between both countries involved key domains with the aim of reviving our economy. Definitely, China is a key partner to Cameroon.
