Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – The Board of Administrators of the World Bank will today approve FCFA 51 billion to be granted to Cameroon for the purification of waste water and for transportation projects in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC).
“More than FCFA 36 billion will be offered the CEMAC zone and over FCFA 13 billion to Cameroon”, the new Director of Operations of the World Bank for Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and the Central African Republic, Gregor Binkert said in Yaounde on June 21 after a courtesy visit to Cameroon’s Minister of Finance, Essimi Menye.
“Our discussions centred on government strategy for job creation, poverty reduction, improving the competitiveness of the Cameroonian economy with much focus on agriculture and professional training”, Gregor Binkert disclosed and added that, “the World Bank has an important portfolio in Cameroon and is deeply involved in all aspects that concern infrastructure”.
Cameroon would want the World Bank to besides the traditional sectors that include good governance, fighting against corruption and poverty, also help boost technical education.
“ I expressed the desire with the new World Bank representative that in the new cooperation programme, specific attention should be given to the promotion of technical education through the building of technical high schools and equipping them with laboratories and workshops”, Finance Minister Essimi Menye told the press.
