Cameroon Business – South African Company Wants to Produce Electricity Equipment in Cameroon

Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) The Director General of the South African company, Megatron Federal is discussing with Cameroon government officials the possibility to set a company to produce electricity equipment in Cameroon’s economic capital city, Douala.

Otto Ryan Edward, accompanied by the regional representative of Megatron Federal, Léon Amala-Brooks had a working session with the Technical Adviser number one in Cameroon’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Dudley Achu Sama in the capital city, Yaounde on Friday, July 29, 2011. Government and the company’s officials started discussing conventional modalities that will end up in a Memorandum of Understanding in the months ahead.


The South African company wants to produce electricity metres, transformers, electricity generators, equipment for the solar energy and switches that are often imported in Cameroon.

The production of electricity equipment will reduce cost and facilitate the process of electricity connection that has been taking much time due to lack of equipment, the Technical Adviser, Dudley Achu Sama said in Yaounde during the discussions.

“We know that Cameroon remains naturally the leader of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) zone with a market of over 50 million consumers”, Léon Amala-Brooks said, adding that Cameroon’s long border with Nigeria that has over 150 million inhabitants offers the company a huge market.

He said they have already created the branch of the of the Megatron Federal Company in Cameroon, “Megatron Cameroon”, which he heads.

Léon Amala-Brooks disclosed that all judicial and legal formalities for the setting up of the company are being met and the budget of between FCFA 800 million to FCFA 1.2 billion to run the Cameroon office is available.
