Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – Massmart is on an expansion spree in Africa and plans to open up more food stores in Cameroon.
Speaking for his company the Chief Executive of South African discount retailer Massmart told the press in a press conference yesterday that they are proposing to start 20 food stores in the time frame between 2011 and 2014, and has also got plans to foray into Angola and other new markets in Africa.
Grant Pattison while addressing the members of the conference indicated that the company is on the lookout to foray into oil-rich nations like Angola, as well as Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Lesotho and Cameroon.
“We’ve currently got about a 4 billion rand food retail business …. Over the next three years we will open 20 stores, so the business we will hope to get it to between 6 to 7 billion rand,” Pattison said.
U.S. retailer Wal-Mart has bid for holding 51 percent stakes of Massmart, although the deal is still awaiting approval from the South African competition authorities.
