World’s biggest aluminum company, Russia’s RusAl said it is planning to foray into producing bauxite and alumina in West Africa’s Cameroon.
In a statement that it gave to the press earlier, RusAl said Cameroon has been evoking a lot of discussions among the top brass of the company lately predominantly with respect to the rich reserves of bauxite in the country which is the major raw material for the manufacture of alumina and aluminum.
The country also has the added advantage of political stability and a business climate that it open to foreign investments, which is especially crucial for foreign partners, RusAl said.
During a recent tour to the West African country, a set of officials representing Rus Al reviewed the country’s raw material and energy scope, assessed its energy and transport infrastructure, and has been carrying out discussions with the Cameroon authorities who are accountable for developing the natural resources domain by calling in foreign investments into the country.
RusAl and Cameroon’s Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Technology Development have decided to implement proposals for RusAl’s s participation in projects in the bauxite and alumina sector in Cameroon before December 1, 2011, the company said.
