Yaounde, Cameroon Africa(Cameroon News) -

Bowleven has announced that its review of Sapele 1 has been stabilized.

Bowleven PLC said its Sapele-1 review sidetrack off Cameroon stabilized at 2,023 b/d of 39.2° gravity oil and 6.47 MMscfd of associated gas on a 56/64-in. choke from the Deep Omicron interval over a 71-m perforated interval.

The well had been dug at 3,634 m true vertical depth, 4,483 m measured depth, in 25 m of water on Block MLHP-5 of the Etinde permit 2 km southeast of the Deep Omicron oil discovery in the original Sapele-1 vertical wildcat. The flow rates are assumed to be of commercial relevance and oil quality and gas-oil ratio can be compared to the ones that has been made in the vertical discovery wellbore, Bowleven said.

The Sapele-1ST well came across log evaluated net pay that was safely estimated to be 10 m in the Deep Omicron interval on the basis of conventional wireline logs.

The interval tested at the sidetrack can be compared on seismic with the equivalent Deep Omicron interval drilled by the original well, which came across better-developed sands. Sapele-1 had a confirmed oil pressure gradient at Deep Omicron, and oil samples were secured during logging.

Due to the stratigraphic nature of the Omicron discoveries, more detailed analysis and review would need to be undertaken in order to delineate the fields and to look at the implications for resource estimates and potential development prospects. Bowleven said the productivity demonstrated by the Deep Omicron test at Sapele-1ST is a major stride for their future.

In addition, a test program is also taking place presently at Sapele-2, drilled to review both the Lower and Deep Omicron discoveries, and the results will be extremely crucial to the process.

The Noble Tommy Craighead jackup is being released as proposed after Sapele-1ST testing in 2-3 weeks for compulsory recertification.
