Yaounde, Cameroon Africa(Cameroon News) -
Botswana Diamonds informed their stakeholders that their reconnaissance program in Cameroon is yielding promising results.
Botswana Diamonds (BOD) informed investors on Wednesday that its Cameroon reconnaissance programme had already begun to indicate promising results.
The board said its geologists have been able to determine sequences of sedimentary rock layers in numerous areas in the east of its Cameroon diamond licence.
These layers are home to a distinct conglomerate horizon, which is geologically correlated with the paleo-conglomerate that has been determined as being diamondiferous, the AIM-listed company added.
The exploration team is now trying to finish the geological mapping as it aims to determine the extent of this horizon.
Chairman John Teeling has revealed that the latest findings are “very exciting” for the company.
“Our next step is to prove that there are diamonds there. To date the majority of the licence has not been explored and significant scope remains for discovering more areas where the paleo-conglomerate layer is preserved,” he said.
Botswana Diamonds will also underatke a follow-up programme that includes drilling and trenching/pitting, now that the conglomerate horizon has been determined.
This programme will be directed towards defining the extent of these conglomerates better and, also, to find out whether the conglomerate is diamondiferous.
