Yaounde, Cameroon Africa(Cameroon News) – Botswana diamonds determines potentially diamondiferous rock layers in Cameroon diamond mine.
Botswana Diamonds has announced that its geologists have determined sequences of sedimentary rock layers in several regions in the east of its Cameroon diamond license. The AIM-listed miner has an 85 percent share of the reconnaissance license, which is right next to the south and west of C&K Mining’s Mobilong license area, where latest results indicate the presence of a very important reserve of diamonds and the findings are to expected to yield one million carats a year is reportedly starting production by 2012.
According to Botswana Diamonds, the identified sedimentary rock layers comprise of a distinct conglomerate horizon, which is geologically correlated with the paleo-conglomerate that C&K Mining has determined as containing diamonds. The exploration team is currently finishing the geological mapping to attempt to find out the extent of this conglomerate horizon.
Along with the geological mapping, a number of representative rock specimens are also being taken for detailed study and review. The reports indicate that a small diamond was found in the sample taken from a stream in the region where the conglomerate was identified.
Now that the conglomerate horizon has been determined in the license area, a follow-up program which would involve drilling and trenching/pitting will be deployed. This program will be directed towards defining in a more precise manner the extent of these conglomerates and also to find out whether the conglomerate is diamondiferous. The latter will involve processing some of the conglomerate by way of an adequate plant to take out any diamonds, according to Botswana Diamonds.
“Our next step is to prove that there are diamonds there. To date the majority of the licence has not been explored and significant scope remains for discovering more areas where the paleo-conglomerate layer is preserved,” says John Teeling, the Chairman of Botswana Diamonds.
