Cameroon and Congo have inked a protocol deal which agrees to both countries giving the go ahead for the commencement of the building of a hydroelectric power plant across the river Tcha which flows through Cameroon.

The pact was signed by the representatives of both countries indicating full compliance to the terms and conditions stated in it on the 28th of October in Brazzaville. The inking of the deal followed the meeting of the council of ministers of the Central Africa Economic Union which made numerous vital decisions with regard to the presentation of the regional economic programme.

The plant is proposed to be constructed around 70 km from Ngouala in the department of the Sangha both situated in Congo and will use the water from the river Tcha which flows through Cameroon. Hence the deal between the countries involves resources from both and the power will be used by both countries.

It is expected that once the hydro electric power project is completed both Congo and Cameroon will be able to solve to a very large extent the immense power shortage that both countries are currently facing. In fact though Cameroon is on the brink of industrial and commercial development many foreign players are apprehensive about setting up businesses in the country owing to the dicey situation with respect to the power supply in the country.

The memorandum of agreement that sets the pace for the development and building of this hydro electric power plant which is expected to produce around 600 megawatts hydropower was inked Minister of Water and Energy Michael Ngako Tomdio on behalf of Cameroon and his counterpart Bruno Lean Richard Itoua for the Republic of Congo.
