The candidates organised a press conference in the capital city, Yaounde, Monday October 17, 2011 during which they presented what they called the Yaounde Declaration and their plan of action.

The opposition candidates include,

  1. Ni John Fru Ndi of the Social Democratic Front (SDF),
  2. Adamou Ndam Njoya of the Cameroon Democratic Union (CDU),
  3. Bernard Acho Muna of the Alliance of Progressive Forces (APF),
  4. Ayah Paul Abine of the People’s Action Party (PAP),
  5. Edith Kahbang Walla of the Cameroon People’s Party (CPP),
  6. Albert Dzongang of La Dynamique
  7. and

  8. Jean de Dieu Momo of Patriotes Démocrates pour de Développement du Cameroun (PADDEC).

The candidates in the declaration want the election cancelled because of many dysfunctions.

They want the electoral law to be revised within six months after which a real independent electoral body will be put in place to replace Elections Cameroon that organised the current election.

“In the election, Mr Biya murdered democracy in Cameroon, crucified justice and implanted tribalism on fertile grounds”, the SDF chairman and candidate, Ni John Fru Ndi said and added that with the declaration, “ Cameroonians will get up, take their responsibilities and defend justice and democracy in Cameroon”.

The National Commission on the Final Counting of Votes, finished working in Yaounde, Monday, October 17, 2011 and has to forward its report and appended documents to the Supreme Court acting as the Constitutional Council latest, October 18.

The 20 petitions most of the candidates who were signatories of the Yaounde Declaration submitted at the Constitutional Council calling for the total and partial cancellation of the election, will be examined on Wednesday, October 19, following a release from the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Alexis Dipanda Mouelle.

The Constitutional Council is expected to proclaim the election results by the end of this week as the law states that the results are proclaimed 15 days from the closure of the polls, which was on October 9, 2011.
