CAMAIR-CO: Cameroon Airlines Company Announce Flights To Four African Countries

CAMAIR-CO: Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – The General Manager of Cameroon’s new airlines company, Cameroon Airlines Corporation (CAMAIR-CO), Van Elk has announced that the company will soon begin direct flights to Bangui in the Central African Republic, Dakar in Senegal, Libreville in Gabon and Lagos in Nigeria.

Van Elk also revealed that flights to the Northern Cameroon towns of Garoua and Maroua will soon take off directly from the Yaounde-Nsimalen International Airport.

He made the announcement in Douala, on May 4 during a press conference in which he equally announced that the company has acquired another plane.

Mr Van Elk said CAMAIR-CO has transported 5,000 passengers since the company was launched on March 28, 2011, representing only 30 percent of its carriage capacity.

Cameroon’ s first airlines company, CAMAIR wound up some five years ago compelling passengers in the country to resort to foreign airlines companies operating in the country.

“It is no secret that our flights to Paris have not yet reached the desired level”, Van Elk said. He added that, “Cameroonians waited for more than five years during which they developed new habits and we must work hard to win the trust of passengers as CAMAIR-Co”.

The company’s boss admitted that it had few technical hitches during the first month of functioning, stating that this caused three flights to be cancelled. The technical problems, however, cannot destroy the credibility of the company, he said.

Mr Van Elk disclosed that, “We signed an agreement with the government that specifies that CAMAIR-Co is the official transporter of the national public authorities” but stressed that this would be against payment.

When Cameroon’s former airlines company, CAMAIR closed down, officials and the population in general resorted to travelling through foreign airline companies such as Air France, Ethiopia Airways, Kenya Airways and SWISSAIR.
