Yaounde, Cameroon Africa. (Cameroon News) – Cameroon Business: The Executive Director of the International Affairs Bureau, Thailand Board of Investment, Vasana Mututanont is leading a delegation of the country’s businessmen to Cameroon to explore investment opportunities.
“The information that we will gather from here will be disseminated to our people through the report that we will produce and through the investment opportunities seminar that we will organise especially in November 10 to 25, 2011 during our industrial fair”.
Vasana Mututanont declared in Yaounde, Cameroon on August 8, 2011 after a working session with the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Louis Paul Motaze.
She said Thailand already invests in all countries in Southern Asia, and stated that there are keen to World Bank reports that talk of huge opportunities in Africa. For this year, 2011, Vasana Mututanont revealed, Thailand is exploring opportunities in four African countries that include Angola, Mauritius, Cameroon and Ghana.
“We talked about Thailand rice that is already consumed in Cameroon. We told the Thailand delegation that we produce only 15 percent of the rice we consume”, Minister Louis Paul Motaze said in an interview after the working session.
Besides rice production, the Cameroon government minister and the visiting investors also discussed the oil palm sector , tourism, infrastructure development, telecommunications and the mining sector.
Far from being the world’s highest producers of rice, Thailand produces over 20 million tonnes of rice every year and exports nine million tonnes.
The volume of trade exchanges between Cameroon and Thailand is 2010 stood at about FCFA 5 billion. While Cameroon imports rice from Thailand, the country buys vegetables, fruits and wood from Cameroon.
The tourism sector in Thailand contributes over 10 percent to the Gross Domestic Product with about 15 million tourists that visit the country every year.
