Buea, Cameroon Africa. December 2010 (news.cameroon-today.com)  -  Buea new market to be inaugurated on Tuesday December 7th 2010.

The newly built market in Buea goes operational on Tuesday December 7th. The official opening was scheduled by the mayor of Buea, Mbella Moki Charles. The new market, located in the Buea Town neighborhood has taken about one year to construct. It is made of modern stalls better adapted to the sanitation requirements of a huge market.

Cameroon Markets – Food produce for sale

The municipal council got to this point by destroying the market that existed here before. Hundreds of merchants had their makeshift stores put down. The now have the chance of occupying the more modern facility. There are fears among some of the traders that not everyone will have a stall, and that not all stalls are favorably positioned.

Many of the traders however, appreciate the efforts taken by the council to make live better for them.

“It was not a good idea to sell clothes beside a meat slab. I did this for five years and I have never been happy with the situation. Now, I am looking forward to better days.”

Another woman sounds even more excited.

“Finally, shopping in Buea will be a big town experience. This is the best Christmas present.”

The opening of the market comes to crown a series of moves taken by the municipal council to brighten up the southwest regional capital.

Following the removal of containers from the major roads, the council got the services of the urban refuse disposal company, Hysacam, who went a step further to make the town a neater place to live in.
