Chaos Computing Club or CCC, a German group of electronic hackers claim to have cracked Apple Inc. (AAPL) flagship fingerprint scanner introduced on its latest iPhone 5S series.
The announcement by CCC comes just two days after the release of the iPhone 5S device by Apple Inc. with promises of better data and device security from snoopers and criminals.
CNBC references Charlie Miller, co-author of the iOS Hacker’s Handbook, to have described the work as “a complete break” of Touch ID security. “It certainly opens up a new possibility for attackers.”
The group posted a video of their claims on its website describing how members of its biometric group carried out the attack on the device.
“Fingerprints should not be used to secure anything. You leave them everywhere, and it is far too easy to make fake fingers out of lifted prints,” a hacker named Starbug was quoted as saying on the CCC’s site.
